Hurricane Trudy strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane and moved toward the west-central Mexican Pacific coast. As of October 18, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 100 mph and was expected to bring up to 8 inches of rain with isolated cases of up to 15 inches. A warning remained in effect from Manzanillo in Colima state to Cabo Corrientes in Jalisco. Trudy’s eye was projected to approach the Mexican coastline on Saturday before gliding past into Sunday. The Mexican navy urged caution due to high waves, heavy rain, and risks of flash flooding and mudslides in vulnerable zones. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Champi strengthened into a Category 4 super typhoon as it moved toward Guam. Colima authorities noted that while immediate danger remained low, heavy rainfall could cause significant damage given the already waterlogged ground from previous storms. No deaths or injuries directly attributed to Trudy are reported at this stage.
