He added that the US will never forget the 'friendship' the British showed Americans after the attack with the 'outpouring of letters and flowers from all over the country'.

Peter Rosengard, founder and chair of Since 9/11, who also spearheaded the campaign for a memorial at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, said the message of September 11, 2001, never mattered more than it does today.'
Pointing to a 9/11 memorial sculpture made from the twisted steel girders found among the World Trade Centre ruins, he said: 'The steel beside us will stand for 100 years - let its lesson stand just as long, that from the worst day we can still teach the next generation to build a better one.'
As ceremonies are being held on either side of the Atlantic on Friday to mark the sombre milestone, Andy Burnham warned that terror 'still knocks at the door of democracy' and expressed the nation's unity with the US.
The Prime Minister said the UK and US 'stand together in memory of those we lost, and in defence of the values we cherish'.
