Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been placed on injured reserve due to a blood clot in his calf, which was discovered during a game against the Los Angeles Rams on October 4, 2026. The team initially allowed him to play in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 15, but subsequent ultrasounds revealed movement in the clot, necessitating his removal from the lineup for at least four games starting with Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.
Further testing has uncovered more serious health issues than initially known: Hurts was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. As a result, he will be out until mid-January as his condition requires significant medical attention beyond initial expectations. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee will start in place of Hurts for the Eagles' upcoming games.
The severity of the blood clot situation has raised concerns about potential life-threatening complications if not properly managed, emphasizing why Hurts must focus solely on his recovery.
