The MV Odyssey, operated by Florida-based Villa Vie Residences, abruptly ended its two-year "endless cruise" off the coast of Cambodia on October 28, 2026, due to soaring fuel costs. The company announced it could no longer afford the sharply increased expenses, with monthly fuel costs per cabin rising from an average of $1,800 to as much as $8,000 in parts of Asia. As a result, 203 passengers and 156 crew members were given just seven hours' notice to disembark, leaving many stranded without immediate accommodation arrangements. Villa Vie Residences stated it was working to coordinate disembarkation and find temporary living options for residents but admitted passing the full cost increase onto them was not feasible. The ship initially set sail in October 2024 from Belfast, Northern Ireland, on a planned three-and-a-half-year journey around the world.
