On October 27, 2026, passengers aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey, a luxury cruise ship based in Florida, were told to disembark off the coast of Cambodia due to escalating fuel costs. The company, Villa Vie Residences, suspended operations after being unable to secure the necessary fuel supplies to continue its two-year "endless cruise" journey. Approximately 200 residents on board at the time received notice early that morning via an internal messaging system from CEO Kathy Villalba. Fuel expenses have surged over 300% since the start of the US-Israel war on Iran, rising from $1,800 to between $6,000 and $8,000 per cabin monthly in parts of Asia. Villa Vie Residences has covered lodging and local transportation for passengers but hasn't provided funding for them to leave the country. Passengers have until 2 PM on October 27th to disembark; some will be unable to collect all their belongings before leaving and must coordinate with Guest Services for later retrieval.
