A retired NYPD detective, Victor Romero, was charged with manslaughter after fatally shooting Koran Irvine, a 46-year-old Con Ed worker, in a drive-by shooting on the George Washington Bridge in New York City. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on October 21, 2026, when Irvine's car was involved in a near-collision with Romero’s vehicle before being shot at from the passenger side. Irvine died after being rushed to Englewood Hospital in New Jersey.
Romero, who worked as a driver and private security guard for QVT Financial, fled the scene in an SUV owned by his employer. He surrendered to authorities on October 22 and was initially charged with murder but later had his charges downgraded to manslaughter. On October 25, Romero posted $1 million bail and was released from jail.
Irvine is remembered as a devoted family man who lived for his wife and children in Valley Cottage, Rockland County. His death has sparked concerns among his family about preferential treatment given to ex-police officers within the legal system. The shooting is being investigated as a road rage incident involving two residents of Rockland County.
