On October 21, 2026, at around 7:15 p.m., Koran Irvine, a 46-year-old father of two from Valley Cottage in Rockland County, was fatally shot while driving on the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge. The shooting occurred after a near-collision with another vehicle; surveillance footage showed Irvine's car abruptly jerking as the suspect pulled up alongside him. Police arrested a retired NYPD detective, who had hung up his badge 25 years ago, less than 24 hours later in connection to the incident. Irvine was taken to Englewood Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The investigation suggests that a single shot struck Irvine's right shoulder before exiting the left side of his neck through the back window of his car. Police are treating this as a road-rage shooting, with no other injuries reported.
