On October 21, 2026, Koran Irvine, a 46-year-old Con Ed worker from Valley Cottage, Rockland County, was fatally shot during rush hour on the George Washington Bridge. The shooting occurred around 7:15 p.m., when Irvine's car suddenly jerked and then crashed into the median after being involved in what appears to be a road-rage incident with another driver. He was taken to Englewood Hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The suspect, identified as Victor Romero, 62, a retired NYPD detective from Haverstraw, New York, was arrested within 24 hours of the shooting. Police reviewed surveillance footage showing the victim's car had been involved in a near-collision before being shot. Romero faces a murder charge and is suspected to have fired a single bullet that entered Irvine’s right shoulder and exited his neck.
Irvine, described by family as dedicated to his family and a Jets fan, leaves behind a wife and two children. The incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the swift investigation efforts in such cases.
