On October 21, 2026, Koran Irvine, a 46-year-old Con Ed worker from Valley Cottage, Rockland County, was fatally shot on the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge around 7:15 p.m. while driving home from an overtime shift. The shooting occurred after a near-collision with another vehicle driven by Victor Romero, a 62-year-old retired NYPD detective who worked as a driver and private security guard for QVT Financial, a hedge fund company.
Romero allegedly fired a single shot at Irvine through the rear window of his car, hitting him in the right shoulder. Irvine then crashed into a median on the bridge before being pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. Romero sped away from the scene in a Range Rover owned by QVT Financial and was arrested less than 24 hours later.
The incident is under investigation as a possible road rage attack, with surveillance footage showing the moments leading up to the shooting. Irvine's family described him as a devoted father who lived for his family and loved the New York Jets football team.
