“I’m here to keep a jihadist, Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States senator,” Trump told a receptive audience in Port Huron, Michigan.
Michigan has one of the nation’s most competitive US Senate contests going into the November 3 midterm elections, with former US Representative Mike Rogers, a Republican, and El-Sayed vying for an open seat that will help to decide control of the chamber.
"If you are going to go to the United States Senate, we need to know: Are you for America or are you for these terrorist groups overseas?" Rogers said at a debate last week.
If El-Sayed wins, "he would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he's allowed to go in the Senate," Trump said.
