Why talks in Oman between Iran and Gulf Arab states were postponed

Iran and Oman had planned a meeting with other Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and GCC nations like Bahrain, to discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz and establishing new temporary routes for vessel traffic through the strategic waterway. However, the scheduled gathering in Salalah, Oman, on Monday was postponed without a specified new date. Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that the meeting would have been an opportunity to discuss recent decisions regarding the strait but cited regional consensus needs as the reason for the delay. Some sources suggest that Saudi Arabia had reservations about the original agreement, while Iran and Oman blamed “events unfolding in Yemen” for the postponement. The delay complicates efforts to ease tensions and restore maritime traffic through the critical passageway between Iran and Oman, which has been disrupted by recent military activities and political disagreements.
