Irish police, An Garda Síochána, have successfully mitigated the threat of drones at recent security events, according to Deputy Commissioner Paul Cleary. This comes as Ireland is currently hosting major meetings for its presidency of the Council of the European Union, which began in July. A major security operation is in place, with An Garda Síochána working alongside the Defence Forces and international policing partners, including US authorities. The Irish police have been able to identify, track, and neutralize drones that enter areas where they are enforcing a no-fly zone. One drone was even spotted by an aircraft arriving in Dublin, prompting an investigation by Gardaí. Overall, the new drone-detection systems seem to be effective, allowing security services to focus on protecting sensitive events without additional logistical burdens. The security operation is ongoing as Ireland continues its presidency of the Council of the European Union.
