Hurricane Isaias, which formed off eastern Mexico and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane, made landfall in Florida's Panhandle near Destin on October 9, 2026. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 25 counties ahead of the storm to prepare for potential severe weather impacts. The hurricane caused significant damage and resulted in six confirmed deaths in Florida as of October 14; two from fallen trees and carbon monoxide poisoning, with four more indirectly linked to post-storm conditions like medical disruptions. Additionally, the storm left hundreds of thousands without power across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Insurance analytics firm Verisk estimated insured property losses from wind and privately insured storm surge at $1 billion to $2 billion.
