Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army major convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in a 2009 shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3, 2024, acting Army Secretary Adam Telle announced. President Donald Trump approved the execution following a recommendation from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who stated it would serve as an example with serious consequences for such acts. The execution will take place at Fort Hood and be livestreamed publicly to ensure awareness of the "serious consequences" for similar crimes. Hasan, paralyzed from the waist down after the shooting, exhausted his appeals in 2023, clearing the way for the sentence to be carried out.
