Cornell student said encounter at fraternity house 'felt like coercion' in 2024 statement to police

In a six-page statement given to police in November 2024, a Cornell University student told a campus police officer what happened to her at the Chi Phi fraternity house a month prior "felt like coercion," according to a copy of the police report obtained by ABC News.

The only time Jane Doe's statement used the word "rape" came when she explained why she took an additional hit of ketamine.

In the civil lawsuit, filed earlier this month, the woman alleged that she was drugged, assaulted and gang raped by seven former and current members of the Chi Phi fraternity at Cornell.

Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten has reopened the case, but has also said the allegations contained in the civil lawsuit are "dramatically different" than the woman's statement to police two years ago.

Cornell University has said the former student's allegations were investigated by the university's Office of Civil Rights and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards under the school's Title IX policies.
