Minnesota Democrats have won full control of the state government, clinching majorities in both chambers of the Legislature and securing the governor's office on November 7, 2026. In the House, the DFL had won at least 72 out of 134 seats, with some races still undecided; a majority requires 68 seats. For the Senate, Democrats secured at least 34 out of 67 seats needed for a majority. U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar defeated Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth to become Minnesota's next governor. Despite voter concerns over yearslong fraud in public assistance programs, Democrats managed to maintain their control, achieving what is known as a "trifecta," where one party controls the governor’s office, the House, and the Senate.
Democrats' top priority was an assault weapons ban, which never reached a vote on the House floor.
Republicans pushed for a new Office of Inspector General to investigate fraud. The plan had bipartisan support in the Senate but did not clear the House.
