Amy Klobuchar won the Minnesota gubernatorial election against Republican state House Speaker Lisa Demuth, with 56.2% of the vote compared to Demuth’s 41.9%. The race was marked by a fraud scandal involving state-run social services programs, where dozens were convicted for stealing hundreds of millions of dollars. This corruption investigation significantly impacted Democratic Governor Tim Walz's popularity and forced him to drop his re-election bid. Klobuchar will become Minnesota’s first female governor.
Demuth consistently trailed Klobuchar by 7 to 8 points in polling, hardly a surprise in the increasingly deep blue state.
The electoral weight of St. Paul and Minneapolis, two deep-blue cities, ultimately proved too much for her campaign to outmatch.
