Trump's new order seeks to rapidly expand the amount of diesel available to American motorists and businesses, including by opening the door to greater use of so-called red-dyed diesel.
What happened
The outlets' own sentences, most widely reported first. Hover one for who reported it.
Diesel prices have been elevated due to conflict abroad in Ukraine and Iran, which has strained the global fuel supply chain.
Dyed diesel is essentially regular diesel fuel that is dyed a reddish colour to identify it for exclusive off-road applications, like with tractors and farming equipment, and it’s comparably cheaper than regular diesel because it is exempt from most road and highway taxes.
Red diesel is exempt from the federal excise tax of US$0.24 per gallon and enabling its use in on-road vehicles without penalties could translate into an effective tax break in some cases.
Diesel prices reached a record of roughly US$6.50 per gallon last month.
