The Pentagon is investigating how sensitive technology in the F-35 fighter jet was diverted to Hong Kong and is currently unaccounted for, raising concerns that it could have made its way into the possession of the Chinese military.

Australia is the Indo-Pacific inventory hub for parts and maintenance of F-35s flown by Asian allies in the world’s largest aircraft programme.
The Pentagon’s F-35 Joint Program Office said it was “aware of a shipment issue of unserviceable F-35 Lightning II components”.
Approximately 20 countries have F-35 aircraft, including the U.S., Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
“The committee is aware of this issue and we’ve received multiple briefings on it,” said House Armed Services Committee spokesperson Heather Vaughan, adding the group is “continuing to look into the incident and conduct oversight”.
