The Aporia
According to Gallup polling, 27% of US workers are now worried that technology will make their jobs obsolete, marking a record high. This concern is particularly acute among younger workers; 34% of those aged 18 to 44 express fear over technology-related job displacement, making it the top job worry for Americans under age 45. Despite these anxieties, worries about benefit reductions, layoffs, and lower wages have remained steady compared to previous years. While there are efforts in Washington to tackle AI-induced job market disruptions, policymakers have not yet agreed on a unified solution. Some experts argue that AI could ultimately create more jobs than it destroys.
