The body of Douglas Craigie, a 49-year-old fisherman, was recovered from the sea off the coast of Lewis on October 14, 2026, during a search for his missing fishing vessel and two crewmates. The remaining fishermen, Norman Murray (40) and Murdo Morrison (23), have not been found despite extensive searches involving HM Coastguard, Police Scotland, and the RNLI. Searches were temporarily halted due to dangerous sea conditions but resumed on October 21, focusing near the Port of Ness.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is conducting inquiries into the incident, with Police Scotland requesting privacy for the affected families. A GoFundMe page set up by the Western Isles Fishermen’s Association has raised over £6,000 to support the families impacted by this tragedy. The community continues to show solidarity and support for those involved in what locals consider one of the worst sea tragedies in recent history. Police are still seeking any information that might aid their investigation and searches.
