Japan has launched its H3 rocket carrying the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) spacecraft from Tanegashima Space Centre on an unprecedented five-year mission to collect samples from Phobos, one of Mars's two moons. The MMX probe will study Phobos and its smaller sibling Deimos to uncover clues about their formation and the origins of water and organic materials on Mars.
Scientists hope this mission will provide new insights into Mars' history and potentially help pave the way for future manned missions to explore the Martian moons as potential stepping stones. The successful launch marks a significant milestone in planetary science research.
