On October 16, 2026, 80 masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians during an olive harvest in the village of Abu Falah, West Bank, injuring at least two people including a journalist from the Washington Post, Heidi Levine, who was seriously injured and required surgery. Settlers burned olive trees, threw rocks, and some were armed with gas canisters and machine guns. Israeli military jeeps arrived but did not stop the attack; instead, soldiers fired tear gas towards Palestinians. Rights groups condemn the violence as settler attacks have increased sharply this year, particularly ahead of Israel's October 27 election. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee condemned the attack as "a despicable act of terror."
