Security forces in Pakistan responded on October 17 to unprovoked firing by the Afghan Taliban along the Kurram border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. State broadcaster PTV News and state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that Afghan Taliban forces opened fire to "facilitate terrorists." In response, the Pakistani army used heavy weapons, destroying several Taliban posts and forcing personnel to flee. According to security sources cited by APP, several Taliban members were reportedly killed during the army's retaliatory action along the Ghuzgarhi border. Additionally, in the Upper Kurram sector, the army targeted the Afghan Taliban’s Topsar post and Shipola base camp with artillery fire, completely destroying the latter. The exchange of fire was still ongoing at the time of reporting.
