A fast-moving wildfire dubbed the Norte Fire broke out on October 15, 2026, north of Azusa in Southern California. By October 17, the fire had spread to San Clemente and neighboring San Juan Capistrano, destroying at least six homes. The blaze rapidly grew from an initial half-acre to 465 acres by evening on October 17, prompting evacuation orders for around 6,000 homes in Orange County. Strong Santa Ana winds fueled the fire, pushing it inland and causing widespread power outages affecting tens of thousands of residents. Firefighters are actively combating the blaze from both ground and air, with some experiencing heat-related injuries.
