A fast-moving wildfire, known as the Norte Fire, erupted in Orange County near San Clemente around noon on October 15, 2026. By mid-afternoon on October 16, it had grown to 250 acres and was threatening at least six homes, forcing evacuation orders for nearly 6,000 structures and 16,000 residents in the San Juan Capistrano area. The blaze quickly expanded due to strong Santa Ana winds, dry conditions, and high temperatures, prompting evacuations and power outages across Southern California. Authorities reported that over 500 firefighters were battling the fire from both ground and air, but it was only 0% contained as of Friday evening.
