A Chinese court has sentenced six individuals, including Li Huifang who operated the Heshi Peixin Kindergarten in Tianshui city of Gansu province, for serving lead-tainted food that sickened over 200 children. The incident was first reported in July 2025 when more than 200 students were found to have abnormally high levels of lead in their blood. Li Huifang received the harshest penalty, being sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to forfeit 500,000 yuan ($75,000) in personal assets. Additionally, the principal and four kitchen staff members were also jailed for their roles in adding toxic substances to the children's food.
