A court in China recently sentenced the operator and other employees of a kindergarten in Tianshui city, Gansu province, to prison terms for serving lead-tainted food. Over 200 children were found with abnormally high levels of lead in their blood as a result. The kindergarten's operator, Li Huifang, received the harshest sentence: life imprisonment and confiscation of 500,000 yuan ($75,000) in personal assets. This case highlights the severe consequences for food safety violations in China that endanger children's health.
