On October 6, 2026, President Donald Trump approved the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, an Army major and former military psychiatrist who killed 13 service members and wounded over 32 others in a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, on November 5, 2009. Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell announced that Hasan will be the second person since 2010 to face execution by firing squad. The Army secretary will determine the time and place of the execution. However, a week later, Trump canceled plans to livestream the execution following widespread criticism from military leaders, politicians, and human rights groups.
