Nidal Hasan, a former US Army major convicted of killing 13 people and injuring more than 32 others in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, has been approved for execution by firing squad. President Donald Trump authorized the execution following a recommendation from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Initially, the Pentagon planned to livestream the event but faced significant backlash; Trump subsequently canceled those plans on October 15, stating that "many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die." The execution is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood.
