As of October 16, 2026, Air France confirmed it will comply with new Israeli regulations that restrict airline crews from entering or flying over Israel if they are nationals or hold dual nationality from one of 31 Muslim-majority countries, including Algeria, Tunisia, and Iran. The restrictions followed a hijacking attempt on September 30 when an Omani co-pilot attacked his captain and tried to crash a flydubai flight into Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport. In response, the Israeli transportation ministry issued directives limiting pilots and cabin crew from countries lacking official diplomatic relations with Israel. Other airlines like United Airlines have also informed their employees of these new rules. Some experts suggest that implementing such restrictions could expose airlines to potential discrimination lawsuits.
Israeli transportation ministry's Aviation Security Operations Centre has reportedly issued new directives that say pilots and cabin crew operating flights into Israeli airspace must not hold the nationality, or dual nationality, of countries that lack official diplomatic relations with Israel.
The move comes after a hijacking attempt last month on a flight travelling from the UAE to Israel.
