Pemra, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, directed all satellite television channels on October 13, 2026, to avoid broadcasting "unfortunate/unpleasant incidents" such as explosions, blasts, terrorist attacks, and firings. The directive mandates that TV channels can only air verified information from official departments or law enforcement agencies. Additionally, Pemra instructed channels to use a time delay mechanism and establish an independent editorial board in compliance with the Supreme Court’s 2018 suo motu case and the Islamabad High Court’s 2022 order. Violations could result in legal action under Sections 29-A, 30, and 33 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002. This decision was made after the Pakistani government imposed governor's rule and emergency measures.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has directed all satellite television channels to refrain from the broadcast, re-broadcast and live coverage of any “unfortunate/unpleasant incident such as explosion, blast, firing, terrorist attack etc.”
Television channels were further instructed to “effectively use time delay mechanism” and ensure that an independent editorial board be constituted in compliance with the provisions of Pemra laws and the Supreme Court judgment in 2018 suo motu case, as well as the Islamabad High Court’s order in a 2022 case
