Arsalan Chaudhary, who received a four-year prison sentence this spring for his role in the massive Toronto Pearson Airport gold heist, is testifying at the trial of Parmpal Sidhu. Sidhu has pleaded not guilty to charges of theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence related to the 2023 heist. Chaudhary admitted taking 30% of the stolen gold before fleeing to Pakistan, where he claims he was kidnapped and tortured until he revealed the location of his stash. The heist involved more than $22 million worth of gold and currency, with approximately 6,600 one-ounce gold bars, weighing over 400 kilograms, being stolen from the airport after arriving from Switzerland. Chaudhary also implicated Simran Preet Panesar, a former Air Canada employee, as the inside man who assisted in the theft but is now a wanted fugitive believed to be living in India.
