Shares in Bumble soared by nearly 50% on October 13, 2026, after reports surfaced that the Texas-based dating app firm was in advanced talks for a $1.3 billion takeover deal with Ithaca Holdings, an American investment company based in New York. The deal would make Bumble a privately held entity, marking a significant shift from its initial public offering on Nasdaq in 2021 where it had peaked at over $14 billion valuation. Founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd in 2014, Bumble initially distinguished itself with a unique feature allowing only women to initiate contact in heterosexual matches. This rule was recently abandoned amid declining user engagement and changing online dating habits. The acquisition is seen as an attempt to reinvent the app away from public market pressures while emphasizing human connection over technological gimmicks, according to Ithaca Holdings co-founders Ravi Gupta and John Hegeman.
