The 2026 edition of The Age Good Food Guide Awards was held in Melbourne on Monday, October 12, with Sydney hosting its own event later. This year, the awards saw significant changes, including 20 new restaurants earning hats and a few familiar names losing theirs. Frank Sweet, co-editor of the guide, noted that despite challenging trading conditions, many restaurateurs worked hard to impress diners, leading to an increase in hat-awarded establishments. The chefs' hat rating system, established over 40 years ago, evaluates restaurants based on food quality, service, setting and experience, and value for money, with scores ranging from 15 (one hat) to 20 (three hats). Notably, eleven of the new entrants are less than a year old. The event was presented by T2 Tea and Oceania Cruises at The Timber Yard in Port Melbourne.
