On October 13, the Russian embassy in France criticized the French Navy for seizing a tanker named DF Peak, which French President Emmanuel Macron claimed was flying a false flag and suspected of illicit fuel transportation as part of Russia's shadow fleet. The incident occurred approximately 450 nautical miles south of Réunion. According to Russian state news agency RIA, the embassy called France’s actions a "blatant violation" of international law and even referred to it as “piracy.” Additionally, Russia is trying to ascertain if any of its citizens were among the crew members on board the tanker. The French authorities did not inform Russia about the seizure prior to acting.
