On October 11, 2026, flash flooding along the Budhi Gandaki river in north-central Nepal forced the evacuation of villagers. The disaster was triggered by a landslide near Chumnubri village in Gorkha district, approximately 100 km west of Kathmandu, which blocked the river and caused downstream flooding. Homes, bridges, and other structures were destroyed; videos on social media showed buildings being swept away by swollen rivers flowing between tall mountains. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority evacuated residents in affected areas like Arughat, a key town on the highway connecting Kathmandu to other parts of Nepal. While there were no immediate reports of casualties, 10 people are missing since Sunday morning according to ANI news agency. Authorities remain vigilant and continue recovery efforts focusing on restoring roads and bridges damaged by floods in remote areas.
