On October 11, 2026, flash floods caused by a landslide in Chumnubri village, Gorkha district (about 62 miles west of Kathmandu), swept through northern Nepal, destroying homes and infrastructure. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority evacuated villagers and warned others to move to safer areas until late Sunday. Videos on social media showed houses and bridges being carried away by the swollen Budhi Gandaki River. Around 10 people were reported missing, but there were no immediate reports of casualties. Damage included at least 35 houses swept away in Painyu and Bagar and six destroyed or damaged bridges, disrupting connections between settlements. Nepal was still recovering from a devastating August flood that left more than 1,400 people dead along the border with Tibet.
