Brendan Carr, who is chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has been accused by critics of hypocrisy for defending free speech and press freedom while serving as Donald Trump's "attack dog" in his war against the media. Just a few years ago, Carr stated that censorship is "the authoritarian's dream", but recently he seemed to disregard this principle when Trump threatened to report NBC News anchor Kristen Welker to the FCC for criticizing Trump's primary candidate endorsements. This threat was made despite Carr's previous commitment to press freedom and his role as chairman of the FCC, which regulates media outlets in the US.
Free speech is the counterweight – it is the check on government control.
FCC TO THE RESCUE!
