The Aporia
On Wednesday, Judge I’Ashea Myles ordered the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve all evidence related to the botched lethal injection execution of Christa Pike, including drugs, syringes, IV lines, and medical equipment. Pike, 50, was scheduled for execution on September 30 but survived two doses of pentobarbital, becoming the first person in U.S. history to survive a lethal injection attempt. She regained consciousness six days later with cognitive confusion, pneumonia, and blood clots. Her lawyers argued that preserving this evidence is crucial for any future legal challenges against her execution or similar cases.
