The Aporia
Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old longtime chef at Nobu Malibu, was killed when a speeding 16-year-old driver crashed into his parked vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway near Carbon Canyon Road in Laguna Beach around 7:00 AM on Saturday. The teenager's SUV hit Uchimiya’s car while he was sleeping inside, causing it to collide with two other vehicles. Surveillance footage captured the SUV traveling at least 50 mph before slamming into Uchimiya's parked vehicle.
Uchimiya had arrived early for work and was preparing for a catering job in Santa Monica when the crash occurred. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries, with the manner of death classified as an accident. No arrests were made initially, and it is unclear if the teenager has any connection to the car's owner, Harry Gregson-Williams, a famous Hollywood composer who leased the 2026 Land Rover. The Pacific Coast Highway stretch where the crash occurred is known for its high rate of fatal accidents.
