On Thursday, Chelsea manager Alonso held a press conference where he addressed the fitness status of several players ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Brentford. When asked about Joao Pedro's availability, Alonso stated that it would be determined based on his readiness for the game. Additionally, James was notably absent from training sessions observed by media outlets last Tuesday.
Alonso is currently facing a dilemma in selecting his team due to recent defensive struggles; Chelsea have conceded 12 goals across only six games this season. Following their 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Hull, Alonso expressed the need to improve the defense, possibly reverting back to his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation for the Brentford match to better defend against their pace on the wings.
In addition to these defensive concerns, Alonso must also decide on midfield selections as he continues to integrate and settle three summer signings into the squad.
