As of November 6, 2026, two people died in a shooting at a Citibank office complex near Tampa, Florida: one victim and the suspect. The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday when Jacob Pearson, angry over a $2,500 debt collection, rammed a gate and exchanged gunfire with a security guard inside the Citibank Center in Brandon, about 15 miles from Tampa. Surveillance footage showed Pearson killing a woman having lunch before being fatally shot by the security guard.
Approximately 3,200 people were working at the complex when the shooting occurred, prompting a massive law enforcement response as employees evacuated the building. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office declared it an "active threat" and confirmed that both victims are deceased. Authorities also noted that Pearson had threatened violence in a phone call to an attorney affiliated with Citibank about three hours before the incident.
This shooting highlights the severe consequences of debt collection disputes escalating into violent confrontations.
