Elon Musk, who is the world’s richest person, set a record by spending nearly $474 million in the 2026 US midterm elections to support Republican candidates. Despite his massive financial contributions, Democrats won several key races, including the most expensive Senate race in Texas history where Democratic candidate James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton. This outcome highlights that Musk’s extensive spending did not guarantee electoral success for Republicans. The high-cost midterms also saw significant donations from other tech and crypto industry figures, but their efforts largely failed to sway voters as expected.
Elon Musk poured a staggering $446m dollars into Republican-aligned political action committees (Pacs) and groups since last year, but his efforts didn’t pay off. Democrats won every one of the five Senate races where Musk’s America Pac spent the most money backing Republican candidates.
