As of November 3, 2026, federal officials are investigating a fire at the headquarters of the Senatobia Police Department in Mississippi, with possible arson being considered. The department has been under intense scrutiny since June when an officer shot and killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley during a shoplifting investigation at a Walmart. The fire broke out around 4:58 AM on October 31, was quickly extinguished by firefighters, but caused significant damage to the building. Local authorities and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are examining whether the blaze was intentionally set. Activists and community members had protested against the shooting earlier this year, demanding answers and accountability from Senatobia police officials.
A year before Kohen was killed, at the same Walmart, an officer forced a Black woman from her car and pointed a stun gun at her in front of her children after she parked in a handicap space to wait for her grandmother, who was shopping in the store. The woman was driving a vehicle with a handicap parking tag.
And in 2023, an officer arrested and placed in a cell a 10-year-old Black boy who had urinated in public. The child was later sentenced to three months’ probation.
