A 60-year-old One Nation volunteer is hospitalized after being allegedly attacked with a baseball bat on his front lawn in Torquay, Victoria, by a 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy on Sunday evening around 7:45 PM. According to Victoria Police, the incident occurred when the volunteer confronted the teenager who was damaging One Nation election signs. The adult attacker is charged with intentionally causing injury and other assault offenses, while the minor received a caution from police.
Victorian Premier Ben Carroll condemned the attack as "shocking," emphasizing that such incidents should not occur in Australia. Meanwhile, Warren Pickering, leader of One Nation Victoria, described the alleged assault as "un-Australian" and called for an end to political violence. Pauline Hanson, federal leader of One Nation, visited the hospital and claimed the attack was life-threatening despite police stating that injuries were non-life threatening.
The incident has raised concerns about rising political tensions in the lead-up to upcoming elections in Victoria.
