The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for south-east Queensland and parts of north-east New South Wales, following overnight hail that hit areas including Maryborough and Gympie. The weather bureau predicts that two systems will converge by the afternoon, potentially triggering dangerous storms with destructive winds, large to giant hail, and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding. Hailstones up to 10 centimetres were reported in Glenwood near the Fraser Coast, while areas like Yarraman and parts of NSW's Northern Rivers saw significant hail as well. The peak times for severe storms are expected during late morning and afternoon as heat increases through the day.
