German authorities reported on November 2 that nails, screws, and needles were found inside some sweets collected by children during Halloween. In Munich, a nine-year-old child bit into a piece of candy containing a nail but managed to spit it out without injury. Another incident occurred in Bremervoerde, where a nine-year-old girl injured her tongue after biting into a chocolate bar with a 5cm pin. On the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn, an 11-year-old found a 3cm-long sewing needle inside a chocolate bar. In Umpferstedt, metal staples were discovered in chewing gum collected by two children aged 11 and 12. Police launched criminal investigations into these incidents but no suspects have been identified yet. Authorities urge parents to be very cautious with treats their children collect during Halloween.
