On November 1, 2026, two Florida parents, Fermin Medrano-Perez, aged 26, and Jeneixa Rodriguez-Crespo, aged 24, were arrested after their four-year-old son was found wading alone in a retention pond in Deltona by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived at the child's home following his discovery, they uncovered "filthy conditions" with animal feces and roaches. The house also contained a caged, neglected dog that was turned over to Deltona Animal Control. Both parents were charged with child neglect and animal cruelty. A grandparent took custody of the boy while the case is being reviewed by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
