US intelligence agencies believe that Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, has been targeted by a suspected Chinese spy named Alice Huang or Huang Le. According to reports in the New York Times and other outlets, Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based data center company Megaspeed, was found to be passing commercial information to Beijing. This revelation has raised concerns about China's efforts to gain access to advanced AI technology from US companies like Nvidia as part of the global AI race. While Nvidia maintains that their dealings with Megaspeed were normal and proper, the situation underscores growing tensions between the United States and China over technological espionage and export controls.
The growing geopolitical rivalry between the US and China has led to increasing clampdowns by Washington on exports of key American technology.
That has cut off Nvidia from a lucrative source of revenue in China, the largest market for chips.
